This baby girl, she has the cutest cheeks. I will bet you those cheeks are just covered in kisses every single day! Babies are adorable and fun to photograph, but that’s not what I love most about photographing babies; that’s not why I’ve been doing this for nearly six years now. Rather it’s the invitation to witness the adoration, appreciation and intense love a parent has for their child that draws me into each and every photoshoot. Have you ever thought about what a privilege that is? How special do you feel when a friend invites you to meet their new baby in the hospital, and when you walk in the room it feels almost sacred because you can see this mother in such a vulnerable state. Her heart is no longer hidden, but out in the open, in her arms, bundled up in a pink and blue receiving blanket, and its affections are displayed in thousands of precious little kisses over the tiniest of soft cheeks. How exciting is it when your friend or family member invites you to celebrate their child’s first birthday? Of course it doesn’t stop there, the love continues and grows even after these little ones are no longer babies, but there is something unique about those early years, isn’t there? As mothers, we are so protective of our babies and we don’t let just anyone hold them or spend time with them. When I pick up the camera, I’m not just taking photos, I am asking, “would you invite me into this precious part of your life?” It’s an incredible privilege.
