Oh my goodness, I had so much fun photographing baby Lincoln this weekend. He was so adorable, flashing his two bottom teeth when he smiled and trying to scoot himself off the set to tear the edge of the seamless paper. Ha!
He’s also the first subject (besides my guinea pigs, I mean, my family members) to be photographed using the new DIY scrim that I made recently. This is my new favorite lighting setup, by far. Behold, it’s a giant wall of light! It partially blocks the path to my office, but it’s so worth it. And it only cost me about $20 and a couple of hours to make. It’s also super light weight and easy to move.

My inner photography nerd is jumping for joy. There are probably a million ways to light up a photo and I’ve got at least a dozen favorite combinations… but I am really loving this look right now. It’s perfect for babies. It softens the shadows, illuminates the background more evenly, and brings out so much detail in the eyes, while still maintaining that simple, single catchlight that I love.
Ok, enough of that, I know what you really want to see… Lincoln! Six months is such a fun age for pictures. I wish I had the power to stop time, for a little while, and enjoy this stage with all three of my children for a little longer. This age is just so sweet and adorable. I can’t believe how much he has grown since I last saw him as a newborn!
